Lior Shemesh’s studio is a celebration of all things beautiful, functional and uncomplicated in design.

Sara: When did you establish Sol-State?

Lior: After completing my architecture studies at the University of Tel Aviv and working for Mayslits Kassif Architects, I moved to Barcelona in early 2015 and founded Sol-State for architectural and design projects.

Sara: What the philosophy behind Sol-State?

Lior: We believe that design should be useful, aesthetic and discreet. We are committed to reducing our design to the essentials so that it’s understandable and accessible. We find inspiration in our surrounding environment like nature or the city - but especially in the Mediterranean environment.

Sara: What materials do you use for your products?

Lior: We use raw materials such as wood, stone, metal or glass. We focus on the quality of our creations and the fact that they are timeless. We combine traditional craftsmanship and modern technology. It’s very important for us to design objects and spaces that are high-quality and durable.

Sara: What are you and your team's main skillset?

Lior: Our team consists of multidisciplinary people who come from art, architecture or product and graphic design. We also work with great manufactures and company consultants to ensure that our projects are meaningful, understandable and meet the needs of our customers.

Sara: How would you briefly describe your approach?

Lior: Keep it simple, honest and clear.

Sara: What are you working on at the moment?

Lior: At the moment, we’re focusing on expanding and implementing more customer-oriented projects - most of them are in the field of architecture. We’re also working on our online shop to present new products.
