Moving Mountains

Incredible Interior Design

Native Hawaiian and former West Elm designer Syrette Lew is the designer behind Moving Mountains, her award-winning studio paying homage to her homeland with its name.

Lew’s interests stretch further than design, also noting art and fashion as a keen passion too. Lew’s pieces are special in a sense that owners can have a long-lasting relationship with her furniture, following them right through life with their classic and timeless aesthetic. The Pouff Chair for example, was inspired by legendary lounges of the seventies but with a modern twist.

To her surprise Lew was awarded Best Craftsmanship at the New York International Contemporary Furniture Fair in 2014, as well as capturing the attention from leading interior titles such as the Architectural Digest, Dwell, Elle Decor and NYTimes. The name of her studio Moving Mountains is inspired by the landscape of her homeland in Hawaii, which constantly moves steadily yet slowly towards the north-west.

For Wallpaper magazine, Syrette Lew designed an exclusive piece for its annual Handmade exhibition. Cadillac as a brand, along with their type of materials used in the XT5 model served here as the inspiration.

Syrette Lew: "In the design of the Chaise Lounge Chair we wanted to highlight Cadillac's reputation as a luxury brand, along with its history and relationship with modernism as well as some of the most important architects and designers of the Mid-Century."

The exhibition took place from 1 to 4 December 2016 at the W Hotel South Beach Miami.
